A hilltop city connected to the landscape below.

Why does it matter?

Pergamon’s acropolis places the monumental capital of the Attalid dynasty on steep terrain. Its theatre, sacred buildings and traditions of learning connect to remains from later periods. The Asclepieion and cultural layers around modern Bergama show that the property extends beyond a hilltop collection of monuments.

PLAN YOUR OWN VISIT

Before you set off.

Plan the acropolis, town and other areas as distinct stops. Do not assume that every location shares one access method or admission arrangement. Decide which parts you want to understand before combining them into your itinerary.

Opening, admission, restoration and access arrangements can change. Check current conditions with the site’s official operator.

Connect the discovery to a city.

These province guides are starting points for nearby sights and local flavours, rather than a boundary map or an organised tour itinerary.
