Hierapolis–Pamukkale
A shared story of travertine terraces and an ancient city.
Why does it matter?
Pamukkale’s white terraces were formed by calcite-bearing waters. Hierapolis records an ancient settlement associated with this thermal setting. Reading the natural formations together with baths, temples and other urban remains explains why the property is recognised for both cultural and natural heritage.

Before you set off.
Allow separately for the terraces and the ancient city. Follow designated routes and any use restrictions intended to protect the formations. Do not assume that every terrace or water area is open for unrestricted access.
Opening, admission, restoration and access arrangements can change. Check current conditions with the site’s official operator.
Connect the discovery to a city.
These province guides are starting points for nearby sights and local flavours, rather than a boundary map or an organised tour itinerary.
